Bobbie Ebony Butts (she/her)

Peer Trainer & Support Specialist

Bobbie Ebony Butts is a Peer Trainer & Support Specialist at Movement for Family Power, where she builds movement spaces for people and families impacted by the family policing and criminal legal systems. 

Bobbie is an active collaborator with advocacy organizations working to dismantle systemic barriers to safety for people with criminal convictions in her home state of California. She played a key role in efforts to pass family preservation bills like California-SB354, and continues to work tirelessly to change local policies through efforts like voter registration, phone banking, canvassing, and education outreach. 

Previously, Bobbie served as the Assistant Director for Starting Over, Inc., where she spearheaded the Family Reunification, Equity, and Empowerment Project. In this role, she assisted families in navigating the intricacies of the child welfare system, working tirelessly to reunify parents with their loved ones in the foster system. 

Bobbie has received a variety of fellowships to further her work, including with the Formerly Incarcerated, Convicted People & Families Movement; Peacemaker 2.0 Alumni: PICO California; Kravis Lab Alumni: Measuring Social Impact, Women Organizing for Justice and Opportunity Leadership Lab (WOJO) Los Angeles; Eleanor Jean Grier Leadership Academy; and California Women Foundation: Women Policy Institute-Riverside County of Criminal Justice. She has received numerous awards and certificates of recognition, including from the California State Senate, California Legislature Assembly, County of Riverside, International Institute for Restorative Practices, and more.

Bobbie received her General Equivalent Diploma from Chattanooga Community College and earned a diploma in Business Office Administration from UEI.
